Why Micro Comforts Make Winter ❄️ Easier

THIS ON THURSDAY

Hi Reader,

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned the Micro Space I'd created as a way to up my meditation game. It must have struck a chord because it was a really popular post!

When things feel hard, I think we look for small wins. So I've taken this a step further to write about how we can also build Micro Comforts in our days and nights. They may seem small but they can have outsized benefits.

What am I talking about? Well, I've noticed that no matter what my day held (work, errands, fun with friends), there's that moment somewhere in between day and evening where I make the choice about what my evening's going to look like. And this matters.

Sometimes I mentally commit to catching up on responding to your comments, cleaning out the silverware drawer, or just flopping onto the couch to catch up on whatever we're watching.

If I accomplish whatever it was I'd thought about doing, it feels like a micro win. And this can can be powerful. Yes, cleaning out the silverware drawer is admirable. But so is flopping on the couch to work our way through one more Oscar-nominated Best Picture 🍿 🎬. Sometimes deciding to just 'be' rather than 'do' is a win.

The point? Forced productivity just isn't working this winter. And this feels less like being a slug 🐌 and more like intentionally choosing my low-key behavior.

That’s what Micro Comforts really are: Small permissions that keep the day from feeling insufficient.

If this idea resonates, see the Micro Comforts I add to my winter days. Learn how to think about them, how to use them, and how to feel good about practicing them.
