Hi Reader,

So . . . there is, or was, a flat of annuals on my terrace. I bought them on a Saturday with real momentum. I had a plan. I even had my trowel out.

Then the week happened. Then another week. By the time I thought about them again, the petunias had gone crispy and the geraniums were hanging on just long enough to make me feel guilty every time I walked past them.

I composted them last weekend. And I stood there for a second, waiting to feel bad about it.

I didn’t, really. What I felt was mostly relief.

That’s what I’ve been thinking about this week. Not just the annuals, but all the other things that didn’t quite get done before summer arrived:

  • The closet that stopped at one shelf
  • The friend I keep meaning to call
  • The project I was going to start once things settled down

Over on the blog this week, I wrote about a simple way to sort through all of it: compost the things that are truly done, transplant the things that just need a better season, and let the rest wait without guilt. It’s actually easier than it sounds. And it feels great!

Better still? Give yourself Permission to have the summer you actually want . . .

Permission Slips aren't just for kids. Check out our Free Download and put a couple of these up on your fridge. You know you want to!

Don't we deserve to have the summer we really want?

You don’t have to earn the season by catching up first. The garden doesn’t think less of you. The perennials come back anyway.

What’s one thing you’re ready to compost this week? I’d love to know.

Until next Thursday,

🩷 Create a life you love.
