🏠 Why You Need a Micro Space(s)

THIS ON THURSDAY

Hi Reader,

I've been thinking about the list of things I've been wanting to do . . . but somehow don't do. Take meditation 🧘🏼‍♂️, for example. Oh, I've done it. Lots of times. But the number of days in a row I've done it is pretty low.

So why is this? Here's my thought: I have tried meditating at my desk, in my reading chair, in bed. But what I really need is a space dedicated to meditation. That way, I will set the intention to meditate, go to my spot, and do it.

But this goes way beyond just meditation 🧘🏼‍♂️. There's an idea that to feel calm, focused, or restored, you need more space.

A spare room. A perfect reading nook. A dedicated corner that no one else ever touches.

Most 🏡 real homes don’t work that way.

What does work (often surprisingly well), are micro spaces: small, intentionally claimed places that help you define your intent when there.

A chair you always sit in. One end of the kitchen table early in the morning. A spot by the window where the light hits just right. A basket beside the couch that holds only things meant for you.

These spaces are small on purpose. And that’s exactly why they work.

Your own micro space creates a boundary without building a wall. It sends you a quiet signal: this is where I do [insert activity!] 🧘🏼‍♂️. And over time, that signal becomes something your body recognizes and trusts. And it begins calling to you.

If this idea resonates, here's a post on why micro spaces are so important. And, how you can create one in an afternoon.

You can read it here 👉🏼 Why You Should Create a Micro Space(s)

💡Try This First

Create a Micro Space Tonight (10 Minutes)

Choose one place in your home where you already tend to linger, even briefly.

Be clear about what this space is for. Reading. Thinking. Breathing. Drinking tea without multitasking.

Add one or two things that support that purpose: a lamp, a pillow, a journal, a blanket.

Then, move on to the next step!

🩷 Create a life you love.

Thanks so much for reading. Have a good week!

✏️ P.S. I didn’t expect this post to be about midlife, but it turns out that’s exactly what it’s about. Why these spaces feel different than they might have years ago surprised me most. You can read more here.
