Hi Reader,
If you've ever waterskied, you may remember the feeling of being pulled underwater, at high speed, before getting upright. It's exhausting. That's kind of how I'm feeling now.
And I know I'm not alone. There's just a lot going on. Frigid cold, the ❄️ storm that swept through over the weekend, so many still without power, jobless friends, what’s happening here in Minneapolis, the broader political climate. Oh, and the constant low-grade worry humming beneath everyday life.
It's hard to pretend everything's fine. And I don’t really want to pretend. But what I am figuring out is there are small things we can do to move through our days a bit easier.
It's not about wallowing and gloom, and it's not about 😃cheery fixes. It's more about how to stay upright against the drag.
This week’s post is about exactly that: the power of naming the drag, the difference between 🙏🏼 hope and denial, and how to re-orient when everything feels slightly off-kilter.
Also, why giving yourself permission to do less can actually be 🦉 wise, and why endurance deserves more respect than it gets.
If you’ve been functioning but not quite steady… this one’s for you.

💡 Try This First
Pause and ask yourself three simple questions:
- Where am I actually directing my attention right now?
- What feels genuinely important this week, and what just feels loud?
- What is one small thing I could stop doing, just for now, to feel better?

P.S.: I have a friend who swears staying upright during trying times is all about eating more 🍦🍨 ice cream. Even in winter. "Ice cream makes everyone feel better," she says. Maybe try that this week!
Warmly,
🩷 Create a life you love
